|Ty Cobb impersonator returns from Atlanta, Georgia|
I have just returned from Royston,Georgia the birthplace of Ty (The Georgia Peach) Cobb where I performed my 90-minute one-man show on Mr. Cobb
in front of the Cobb family and an audience full of rabid Cobb fans, including the Mayor, City Council Members and officials at the Ty Cobb Museum.
At the end of the show, I addressed the question that many
people have asked. Was Cobb a racist? He was raised in Georgia in the late Nineteenth century. Yes, he was a racist as was Mark Twain for part of his life, as were Huckleberry Finn and many others. Cobb came to see late in life how ridiculous racism is and after becoming a Christian, he changed his viewpoint. He created the Cobb Educational Foundation providing scholarships for poor Georgia students regardless of color. He established the Cobb Memorial Hospital and Healthcare System for poor Georgia folk regardless of color. The second CEO and administrator of the Hospital was African-American.
The audience gave me a long-standing ovation and the Mayor presented me with the key to the city.
