GDP is a fairly blunt metric. I like to find where specific resources originate and who produces them.

99% of pistachios in the US come from California, e.g.

Iowa is the country's top egg producer, generating over 16 billion eggs last year. That's 20% of the country's eggs.

90 percent of the pumpkins grown in the US are farmed within a 90-mile radius of Peoria, Illinois.

Washington, California and Oregon together produce 90% of sweet cherries. Texas produces 31% of our crude oil.
